Q. Do all Tarot readers interpret cards in basically the same way?
A.No, each reader interprets the cards according to his or her own understanding of the cards and unique beliefs.
Q. When you use the Tarot, are you communicating with my soul or yours?
A. We are entering in that sacred space where our souls are communicating with each other.
Q. How do I know if someone truly has the gift of reading the cards, or if they are just putting on an act?
A. The way you feel when you are experiencing a card reader tells you everything you need to know. If their information doesn’t feel authentic, or you feel anything negative, then don’t open yourself to the person. Let your feelings and intuition guide you.
Q. What qualities should I look for in someone I go to for help?
A. Someone with a gentle presence who has the capacity to hear what you are saying and what you are not saying. A person who has an awareness about and openness to a variety of world views and philosophies, and can create metaphors that speak to your experience. Someone who does not force their religious view or any of their interpretations on you. The cards are intuitive portals and offer guidance. You, as the seeker, decide if this information is useful to you.
Q. Do you need to know personal information about me to do a reading?
A. That’s up to you. At the beginning of the reading I ask for what you want to know, and what is happening in your life. You decide what you want to put out. When we do a reading, we ask for the wisdom of the cards. The information that comes speaks to your situation as you understand it.
Q. If the Tarot is supposed to reveal things about my life, why does a Tarot reader ask me questions?
A. To get clarity on how that piece of information relates to you specifically. A reading is a shared journey.
Q. Do I need to do anything to prepare for a Tarot reading?
A. Yes, think about your life and the kinds of questions you want to ask. The cards are a reflection pool. They speak to what you have set in motion in a positive or negative way.
Q. Can you predict the future?
A. No. Time is elastic and we help shape the future by the way we think and what we believe. A reading is about possibility, and you are a co-creator with the Divine. A reading gives you information about the path you are on. It’s up to you to make choices that further your journey in a positive direction.
Q. How does the Tarot reading work?
A. We interact with and affect everyone and everything with which we come in contact. If you come in person for a reading, then you shuffle the cards while you talk about what you want to know. As you touch the cards, you inform them with your energy. When the reading is over the phone, you are talking as I shuffle the cards. Again, your energy is informing the cards.
We bless the cards and set the intention that the information you are about to receive is for your highest good. The cards are then spread faced down. If the recipient of the reading is present, they intuitively choose five cards (I do a five card reading). If the reading is done over the phone, I spread the cards face down and alert the recipient that I will be touching each card and they intuitively tell me when to stop. In either situation, the person receiving the reading is intuitively choosing the cards.
This is an intuitive art that is fed by a deeper part of us — not the ego. Thus, it’s the recipient’s energy that is informing the reading — so the information will be about his or her life.
Q. What’s the difference between a Tarot reader, a medium, a palm reader and a psychic?
A. Each uses their specific gift to access intuitive information. The tools are different but each accesses similar information.
Q. Do you give advice during a reading?
A. I give suggestions on how one might go about strengthening a part of themselves that needs strengthening. For example, if a person never takes quiet time to reflect on his or her life, I might suggest that he or she look into Yoga or Tai Chai.
Q. How does a Tarot reading benefit one’s life?
A. It puts life in a larger context and makes clear how we are living our life. Sometimes, we are too close to our situation and lose sight of where we are going — or we get scared or stuck and don’t have a sense of what to do. The Tarot brings perspective that makes us more aware of our choices; it gets us back on track to live the life we want to live.
Q. Is the Tarot compatible with my religion?
A. Yes, the Tarot is a tool for spiritual seekers to live the life they want to live. Personal religion will inform our choices with what we believe.
Q. Will receiving a Tarot reading tempt fate?
A. No such thing. Either you are a co-creator of your life — or you’re a victim of your choices.
Q. Will you tell me if you see something negative in the reading?
A. Something negative is only an opportunity to see something in a different light and then think and act in a more expansive way to change life in a more fortunate direction.
Q. When giving a reading, do you have visions?
A. I have intuitive hunches and feelings that resonate with what the person is saying, not necessarily visions.
Q. What if you see something “bad” in someone’s future?
A. What I see are patterns that people have set in motion. The cards give information about how to change those patterns. We help create the future by the choices we make now. The future is affected by how we act in the now. Something bad in the future is a potential that does not have to happen.
