The Value of the Creative Arts: An Interview with Diane Halperin & Mary Braheny

Several years ago, Mary Braheny and I were interviewed about the creative arts and our work at LifeDesigns.net on the Nancy Pristine Show. Listen here:

And, here’s an excerpt:

Nancy: What can the creative arts do for people?

Diane:  First, let’s define the creative arts. The creative arts are movement and poetry and drama and storytelling and visualization. They are predominately the nonverbal ways of interacting. What’s really so important is they address the whole person. So many times people focus in on their thinking or on their body or on their mind or on their spirit for inspiration. What we know is that there is a need to transform the whole organism because we are a totality.

In our book, Mind, Body, Spirit: connecting with your creative self, Mary and I write:

Mind needs focus.
Body needs direction.
Spirit needs nourishment.

That’s what the arts do; they really speak to all that we are. When we immerse ourselves in them, then we are really getting maximum benefit.
